In a statement reacting to the publication of EU’s new Industrial Strategy on 10 March, Cefic urges EU institutions to adopt a “sectoral Green Deal for the chemical industry”. The association also calls for the new SME strategy to support Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SME), which constitute the majority of Cefic’s membership, in delivering the Green Deal objectives. The chemical industry welcomes the recognition of the better enforcement of single market rules as a pillar of a new Long term action plan especially the use of digital solutions to detect non-compliant products entering the EU market, and the creation of key value chain alliances including the Alliance on Low-Carbon Industries and Clean Hydrogen Alliance.

Following the publication on 11 March of the Circular Economy Action Plan, Cefic issued a statement stressing that the chemical industry enables a circular economy by developing breakthrough technologies such as chemical recycling. The chemical industry calls for the right conditions to be put in place to develop these solutions in Europe including a European Single Market for Waste, and better access to public and private funding for innovative technologies.
