ARN Statement – joint position paper with EBAM, MSG and UVEB
Cefic’s sector groups MSG, EBAM and UV EB are concerned about ECHA’s report of Assessment of regulatory needs (ARN) on Esters from acrylic and methacrylic acid with linear and branched aliphatic alcohols, simple acids and salts, aliphatic cyclic alcohols, polyols and ether alcohols (other than methanol and ethanol).
Independent Expert Panel Reviews Assessment of Chemicals critical aspects as Respiratory Sensitisers
The European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) Methacrylates Sector Group (MSG) and the Methacrylate Producers Association, Inc. (MPA) commissioned a workshop in October 2021 during which an independent Expert Panel concluded that a Weight of Evidence (WoE) approach was essential for assessing respiratory sensitization. The assessment of MMA is still ongoing but up to today a comprehensive WoE assessment has not been completed by RAC.
Methacrylates sector group statement concerning the proposed classification of Methyl methacrylate as a respiratory sensitizer
The scientific review has been published that MMA is not a respiratory sensitizer. MSG is continuing to work with the EC to ensure a comprehensive assessment of RAC. The Methacrylates Sector Group (MSG), a sector group of Cefic, is committed to ensuring the health and safety of workers and believes that current control measures are sufficient to protect workers handling MMA.
New Acrylonitrile Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) set by European Legislation (CMD4)
The Acrylonitrile Sector Group (ASG) has been involved in the OEL Occupational Exposure Limits process since the beginning and communicated earlier about this topic to the industry. The objective of this follow-up one-pager communication is to inform the wider Acrylonitrile industry’s downstream users about the new OELs that were finally set by European regulation in March 2022 and will enter into force in April 2026.
MSG on RAC opinion to classify MMA as a respiratory sensitiser
The Methacrylates Sector Group (MSG) is committed to ensuring health and safety of workers coming and protecting them from harmful levels of exposure to MMA at workplace. We believe, however, that the...
Hydrogen in the petrochemical industry
In our paper on hydrogen, we explore the role that hydrogen could play to reduce the carbon footprint of the petrochemical industry by in the short-term providing low-carbon fuel to heat steam crackers’ furnaces and in the long-term feedstock to manufacture petrochemicals.
Methane emissions in the chemical industry
The paper on methane shows that across the value chain from crude oil/natural gas to chemical products (e.g. plastics), the largest contributor to methane emissions is the exploration of gas and oil. Methane emissions at refineries and chemical plants are very small compared to the amount of CO2 that these plants release.
