European solvents industry group (ESIG) revamps its website

With its modernized and mobile-friendly design, the new website of ESIG provides a lot of information on the use of solvents by downstream users, regulators, EU policy-makers and the general public.

With its modernized and mobile-friendly design, it provides a lot of information on the use of solvents by downstream users, regulators, EU policy-makers and the general public. ESIG represents the major producers of oxygenated and hydrocarbon solvents, including big multinationals as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Its mission is to promote a sustainable, safe and responsible use of solvents in Europe and to ensure that the regulatory framework for manufacturing, storage, distribution and use of these solvents is based on sound science and best practices.

More than half a million European companies use solvents (ranging from pharmaceutical to agrochemical and paint producers) including many SMEs that do not have the required resources to produce their own publications on the safe use of solvents.  The ESIG website contains useful information tools (videos, posters, brochures etc.) to help them ensure safety within their companies. The website also invites visitors to discover solvents by highlighting their benefits in everyday life. Solvents have indeed multiple applications in transport, health, agriculture etc. that most people are unaware of.

Cornelia Tietz, ESIG Director General, says: “Solvents are an essential part of our everyday life. The industry makes a significant contribution to Europe’s economy, employing directly and indirectly over 10 million people and having an estimated turnover of around €5 billion. Maintaining the highest levels of safety and health standards all across Europe is a top priority for us. Therefore, the new website contains a wealth of information to help solvents’ users comply with safety, health and environmental standards. This website will also support ESIG’s efforts to make sure the benefits of the solvents’ industry are recognized by policy-makers, regulators and the general public.”
